Little Lions Child Coaching is proud to share that our LLet’s Talk Fellowship was recently featured in the Global Mental Health @ Harvard Weekly Newsletter.
The fellowship was included in the newsletter’s Global Mental Health News & Events section and shared in partnership with the Mental Health Innovation Network (MHIN), helping bring this Cape Town-based youth mental health opportunity to a wider global mental health audience.
The LLet’s Talk Fellowship is a fully funded 12-month programme that trains young people in Cape Town to become community mental health advocates.
Using a task-shifting approach, the fellowship equips young people with skills in communication, facilitation and mental health literacy. These skills help fellows create supportive spaces for children in schools, homes and community settings.
The programme includes:
The fellowship is designed for young people who are passionate about children’s mental wellbeing, community work, social activism or content creation.
For Little Lions, being featured in the Global Mental Health @ Harvard Weekly Newsletter is an encouraging moment for our team, fellows and wider community.
It helps place our work within a broader global conversation about youth leadership, community-based mental health support and the importance of making preventative mental health resources more accessible.
Across South Africa, many children continue to grow up in environments where access to mental health support is limited. The LLet’s Talk Fellowship responds to this by investing in young people who are already connected to their communities and motivated to create change.
At Little Lions, we believe children’s mental health support should not only exist in formal care settings.
It can also happen through trusted relationships, trained community role models and safe spaces where children feel seen, heard and supported.
By training young community mental health advocates, the LLet’s Talk Fellowship helps strengthen the network of support around children and brings mental health conversations into everyday spaces.
Applicants should be between 18 and 35 years old, live in Cape Town or the surrounding areas, and demonstrate experience or interest in community work, social activism or content creation.
If you know a young person who is passionate about children’s mental wellbeing, youth leadership and community impact, please share this opportunity with them.
